EN9 (AISI 1055) Steel

High carbon steel grade offering higher hardness and wear resistance than EN8.

EN9: Hard Wearing Carbon Steel

EN9 (also known as 070M55) is a medium carbon steel with higher carbon content than EN8, typically around 0.50-0.60%. This gives it higher tensile strength and wear resistance.

Key Features & Properties

  • Hardness: Higher surface hardness capabilities.
  • Wear Resistance: Excellent resistance to wear.
  • Strength: High tensile strength.
  • Surface Hardening: Ideal for induction hardening to HRC 50-55.

Typical Applications

  • Cams and rollers
  • Sprockets and gears
  • Woodworking tools
  • Heavy duty wear parts

Technical Specifications

EN9 is used for components requiring a hard surface and a tough core, such as cams and rollers. It is less ductile than EN8 but stronger.
