EN8 (also known as 080M40) is an unalloyed medium carbon steel. It is a very popular grade for general engineering applications where better properties than mild steel are required but the cost of an alloy steel is not justified.

- Machinability: Good machinability.
- Heat Treatment: Can be flame or induction hardened.

Technical Specifications
EN8 is suitable for shafts, stressed pins, studs, keys, etc. It can be supplied in the normalized or quenched and tempered condition.
