AISI 4150 High Strength Steel

High carbon variant of 4140 offering increased hardness and strength for demanding high-stress applications.

AISI 4150: Enhanced Hardness & Wear Resistance

AISI 4150 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with higher carbon content than 4140, providing greater hardness and strength capabilities. It is used for components requiring high tensile strength and toughness.

Key Features & Properties

  • Higher Carbon: Increased carbon content (0.48-0.53%) for higher hardness.
  • Wear Resistance: Better wear resistance than 4140.
  • Strength: High tensile strength and yield strength.
  • Machinability: Good machinability in the annealed condition.

Typical Applications

  • Gun barrels and firearm components
  • High-pressure valves and components
  • Military-grade heavy parts
  • Automotive axles and steering components

Technical Specifications

AISI 4150 responds well to heat treatment and can be induction hardened for surface wear resistance. It is often used in applications where 4140 does not provide sufficient surface hardness.
